YourOnlineCommunity (YOC) the operators of website www.SportsLive.com.au have supported numerous codes, hundreds of individual clubs and literally thousands of young sports people since it first commenced operations in Wollongong in 2001.

Last year SmartPages, the online directory part of YOC, officially took over responsibility for this community activity and as
Major Sponsor intends to spread its involvement as new online communities are established throughout Greater Sydney.
SportsLive has operated in Parramatta since August 2003 and on 19 April 2007 YOC commenced in Sutherland Shire and launched a SportsLive site there - see link www.theshire.sportslive.com.au
YOC plans to establish at least six more communities in the next twelve months and ultimately intends to operate between 12 and
14 communities throughout Greater Sydney.
The role SportsLive sees itself playing in the wider community is multilayered and not simply the provision of web hosting and
publishing. In the years to come and as the amount of funds channeled to SportsLive increases (SmartPages intends committing a
specific percentage of all revenue its directories earn to SportsLive) initiatives such as campaigns to assist sufferers of
childhood obesity and teenage mental health will be launched and its fundamental approach will be to foster a safe and health
lifestyle through sport based activities in the local community.
SportsLive provides online services to any amateur sports body whatever their size - these services can be as extensive as
providing access to a sophisticated content management system with full hosting through to simply displaying a link to an
established website.
A common problem discovered with many small clubs and organisations is that they are difficult to find on the internet. Often
they have hard to remember URLs or have .orgs or .nets rather than the common .com.au domains and many of their own members do not know how to locate them.
Amateur sports organisations are usually severely under funded and the provision of hosting services completely free is welcomed
by administrators. Incidentally there are no obligations of any kind to continue with SportsLive, it’s a totally open ended
arrangement which is why it’s so well received in the sporting community.
In fact, the activities of SportsLive were largely instrumental in YOC (operating as Empower Australia till February 2007) being
nominated and winning a PrimeMinister’s Award for Excellence in Community Business Partnerships (Small Business - NSW) in 2004.
SmartPages is delighted to be involved with SportsLive which often records thousands of young visitors a day to its popular
website and looks forward to increasing its participation in the years to come.
