Tony Pearce - National Trichology Services

Gone today, hair tomorrow

Not exactly the ideal catchcry or slogan for a specialist such as Tony Pearce. What is ideal, however, is the pioneering research and treatment that Trichologist Tony Pearce, has, and continues to do, in to the field of hair loss, particularly with regard to women.

Tony’s research in the area of trichology revolutionised the treatment of hair loss – both in Australia and overseas.  Pioneering Class 3 laser therapy in clinical practice within Australia, Tony is widely acknowledge as the first to identify two forms of hair loss in women – genetic and acquired.

Trichology, derived from dermatology, is the study of the hair and scalp. Originally, hair loss was originally treated as a medical issue, with doctors prescribing treatment –then it became more aligned with hairdressing.

Tony became a trichologist after careers in both the Navy and Army, and as a nurse for a drug and alcohol centre run by St Vincent de Paul. As a registered nurse, Tony is the only consulting trichologist with a hospital-trained, healthcare background. Tony is now the Clinical Director of National Trichology Services in Australia and Trichology of Virginia, DC in the United States and has recently become an adviser to one of India’s largest hair cosmetic manufacturers.

When Tony started out 13 years ago he was met with a barrage of criticism and struggled with his own desire for perfection. Despite some not giving trichology the credibility it deserved, Tony never stopped believing in what he was doing. As a nurse he felt he could do a little bit for a lot of people, however as a practising trichologist he knew he could make a profound difference on individuals’ lives.

In partnership with his mentor, Arthur Chan, Australia’s foremost research pharmacist, Tony’s research made a discovery that revolutionised the treatment of hair loss in women.

Their research discovered that, while genetics can be a factor in hair loss, nutritional, hormonal, physiological, autoimmune, psychological, environmental, certain medications and other third party actions could all also be factors.  And, while some hair loss problems can be temporary and self-correcting, others can be corrected with nutritional and/or hormonal interventions. Genetic thinning can be stabilised but not cured, while others cause permanent hair loss due to follicle destruction.

The advent of the internet has meant that Tony can help even more people, with an online service. Tony can treat people around the world and has found the same stresses and anxieties affect all of us, no matter where we are from or our background. The same stresses don’t mean the same treatment as treatment can vary from culture to culture due to the genetic makeup of different races.

As he continues to make a positive difference to his patients, Tony is looking at opening a practice in Western Sydney, or the possibly of franchising.

With his affiliations with the Nurses and Midwives Board of NSW, Society for Progressive Trichology, Analytical Reference Laboratories as well as doctors, nurses and other medical professions as patients, Tony is on his way to achieving his goal of creating a better awareness of trichology and regulating the industry.

Tony practises what he preaches when it comes to keeping fit and healthy.  A passionate runner and gardener, Tony also enjoys taking his dog for a walk or playing touch footy with his kids.

After moving to the Shire in 1990, Tony’s travels reinforce what a great place the Shire really is. For many women around the world, they would think that Tony Pearce and his revolutionary treatments are really great too.
