Sutherland teams in play-offs for WABL and State League
As expected, Sutherland Sharks Men’s Waratah Australian Basketball team has finished top of the table. In the first weekend of the play-offs it will take on 6th place Hills Hornets at Sutherland Basketball Stadium beginning at 6pm on Saturday 28 July.
Two teams will be eliminated next weekend in the 6 team qualifying finals. The remaining four teams will then contest the semi-finals and final in the WABL at Sutherland Basketball Stadium on Saturday 4 August and Sunday 5 August.
Also next weekend the Sutherland Sharks Young Women’s Division 1 team in the State League take on the Illawarra Hawks in a semi-final at 3.30pm on Saturday 28 July at the Sutherland Basketball Stadium.
In the Division 1 Men of the State League, the Sharks travel away to play Macarthur Heat in one of the three qualifying finals on July 28.
Should the Sharks State League teams make it through the qualifying finals, they will also play at Sutherland Basketball Stadium on the 4th and 5th August in the semi and final series. Sharks under 13s and 16s lead way to Premier Youth League Finals
In a tough day away for the Sharks against APIA Leichhardt Tigers only the second placed 13s were able to pick up a win. They remain on the same points as top of the table Blacktown City Demons but trail by 8 on goal difference.
The Sharks 16s picked up a point against APIA Leichhardt with a one all draw but were expected to do better. The Sharks are in second place while their opponents are languishing in 13th spot.
The 18s also had an unexpected result losing 1 nil to the 11th placed Tigers. This caused the 18s to drop out of the top 5 as a St George Saints win (over Bankstown) saw them leapfrog the Sharks.
Although well out of play-off contention in 12th spot the Sharks 14s had a good nil all draw against their more fancied Tigers opponents (5th).
Results for July 21 games against APIA Leichardt Tigers at Lambert Park were:
Sharks U13 won 2 - 1
Sharks U14 drew nil all
Sharks U15 lost 2 - 1
Sharks U16 drew 1 all
Sharks U18 lost 1 nil
