Four months ago Anthony Fenton realised a fifteen year dream to own a restaurant in the Shire, when he went into business for himself by opening Members Restaurant in Sutherland.
Anthony loves the hospitality industry which he has worked in for over 18 years. He has experience in most of the leading hotels, clubs and pubs in the Shire covering all areas including management.
When opening Members Restaurant he decided that his menu would be modern Australian cuisine. He would also provide patrons with alternative choices of meat to what is currently available in restaurants in and around the shire.
While providing popular meat dishes such as T-Bones and sirloins, Anthony also put an emphasis on gaming meats, which customers could sample and choose as a way of expanding their palate. Kangaroo, crocodile, duck and rabbit are part of the menu that sits alongside the more traditional meats available.
Anthony loves the clientele that a restaurant brings and has found that generally most are looking for a place to relax and enjoy the art of dining. He said that given that his business is in its infancy, he finds he is devoting most of his time to the restaurant in an effort to create public awareness and also build a reputation of a ‘must visit’ restaurant.
Anthony is happy with the way things have started and has been excited by the repeat customers, of which many are trying and enjoying his modern Australian cuisine. Friday and Saturday nights require bookings to ensure a table, although he did say walk-up customers have, on occasions, been lucky enough to obtain one.
When setting up he looked to cater for small and large groups, as well as dinner- for-two customers, and, with an outdoor area dining under the stars is possible. Open Tuesday to Sunday for lunch and dinner Anthony does not feel consumed by the hours he works and has set his sights on expanding and opening another Members Restaurant in the future.
A born and bred Shire boy, Anthony keeps himself fit by competing in open water swimming races such as the Shark Island Swim and is often training four days a week at Sutherland Pool with the Masters Squad.
