Sharks bite Hornets twice in WABL
In last weekend’s Waratah Australian Basketball League games the Sutherland Sharks men’s and women’s teams both had solid wins over the Hills Hornets. The Sharks women had their second win in a row in knocking over the Hornets 85 – 63. Lauren Nicholson (32 points) and Marianna Tolo were dominant scorers for the Sharks. The win now has the Sharks in ninth place of the 11 team competition.
In the men’s game, the Sharks had their fourth win on the trot in defeating the Hornets 84 – 77. Once again BJ Carter was the top scorer for the Sharks with 23 points. The Sharks are noe in third spot on the ladder.
Women: Sutherland Sharks 85 ( Lauren Nicholson 32, Marianna Tolo 26) defeated Hills Hornets 63 (Selena Wowrzyniak 18, Annice Lagourcetta 18)
Men: Sutherland Sharks 84 (BJ Carter 23, Dane Morris 13, Blake Hendricks 12) defeated Hills Hornets 77 Jason Strong 29, Mark Smith 13)
No games are scheduled for the coming holiday weekend. Sharks split games in State League Basketball
In last weekend’s Division 1 State League Basketball games the Sharks men had two games in a row. The first game was at home against the Central Coast Crusaders on Saturday. The Sharks were competitive with the third placed Crusaders but after being slightly behind at half time (39 -36) they could not make up the deficit and ultimately lost by 81 – 76.
Then the Sharks had to travel to Maitland on the Sunday to take on the Mustangs. Despite the trip the Sharks were too strong for their opponents running out comfortable winners 99 – 78 after leading 47 – 36 at half time. Andiejunas (35 points) and Brandon (31) dominated the scoring for the Sharks.
Central Coast Crusaders 81 (C Ferguson17, R Lubinskas 14, E Whitmore 14) defeated Sutherland Sharks 76 ( G Brandon 24, S Atanasovski 15, A Heather 13)
Sutherland Sharks 99 (V Andriejunas 35, G Brandon 31, A Heather 17) defeated Maitland Mustangs 78 (R Compton 14, J Kellaher 14, N Presland 14)
The Sharks are now fourth in Pool D. However only the top two teams go through to the play-offs in the four pool competition.

In clash with Manly United last weekend the Sutherland Sharks Premier Youth League teams split the five game round with two wins, two losses and a draw.
As expected the top placed Sharks 13s and 14s had wins although the 13s had to fight hard to defeat their fourth placed opponents 3 – 2. The surprise of the round was the 16s one all draw. Manly are sitting on top of the 16s ladder and were expected to account for the Sharks relatively easily.

Under 18: Sharks lost 5 nil
Under 16: Sharks drew 1 all
Under 15: Sharks lost 1 nil
Under 14: Sharks won 3 nil
Under 13: Sharks won 3 - 2
