Bowlers in form as centuries dry up in Sutherland Shire Junior Cricket


No centuries have been recorded in Sutherland Shire junior cricket since Christmas, but there have been a number of good bowling performances. Ryan Almond took 6 wickets for 17 runs for Engadine Dragons 16A against Caringbah Sports in round 9. Just behind was Jesse McPhee who took 6 for 20 for Gymea Bay 14A against Illawong Menai.
In the 10F grade, Mitchell Gilmour took 5 for 5 for Sylvania Heights against Caringbah Sports. With 1 day of the last round (10) to be played on March 6, Mitchell Dibb of Engadine Dragons 16C has the only 7 wicket haul with his 7 for 29 in round 3. He is closely followed by Christian Bennett of Gymea Bay 12B who took an amazing 6 wickets for 1 run in round 6. Almost as good was Sean Picone’s 6 wickets for 2 runs for Caringbah Sports 16C in round 3.
With one day in the preliminary rounds to go Ben Letton of St Patrick’s 16B still heads the batting honour board with his 160 not out in round 1. He is followed by Ethan Grinham of Gymea 14A with 122 in round 6 and Jackson Garrett with 121 for Engadine Dragons 14E in round 2.

Sutherland Sharks kick off Premier Youth League football campaign


The Sutherland Sharks Premier Youth League soccer teams had a good start to their 2010 campaign by earning ten points from a possible 15 in the first round against Sydney Olympic. The under 13s showed the way running out 3 – 1 winners, while Olympic were too good in the 14s winning 3 nil. 
The Sharks under 15s were 2 nil winners while the 16s played out a hard fought 1 all draw. The Sharks completed the youth league games by running out 1 nil winners in the under 18s.
The next four rounds for Sutherland Sharks are:
Saturday March 6 against West Sydney Berries at Lidcombe Oval.
Saturday March 13 against South Coast Wolves at Seymour Shaw Park, Miranda.
Saturday March 20 against Bonnyrigg White Eagles at Bonnyrigg Sports Club.
Saturday March 27 against Marconi Stallions at Seymour Shaw, Miranda

Sutherland Sharks take on Bankstown Basketball challenge


The Bankstown Basketball Association staged a magnificent event recently at the Bankstown Basketball Stadium, Condell Park with many of the state's top Waratah Basketball League and Youth League teams competing in the 2010 Bruins Challenge.

The Sutherland Sharks had teams in the men’s and women’s divisions. Both teams won one game from three.

Reigning WBL men's premiers the Parramatta Wildcats dominated their division, winning all three of their games to signal they will be strong contenders again in 2010.
The women's WBL division was dominated by the Lady Bruins, who comfortably won all three of their games.
WABL MEN: Saturday 20 February: Sutherland Sharks 46 defeated Bankstown Bruins 40, Sydney City Comets 75 defeated Hills District Hornets 69, Parramatta Wildcats 89 defeated Hornsby Spiders 80, Sydney City Comets 88 defeated Sutherland Sharks 56, Bankstown State League 60 drew with Hills District Hornets 60.
Sunday 21 February: Bankstown Bruins 69 defeated Hornsby Spiders 56, Parramatta Wildcats 92 defeated Sutherland Sharks 63, Parramatta Wildcats 82 defeated Sydney City Comets 60, Hills District Hornets 84 defeated Hornsby Spiders 66.
