Sutherland Basketballers in NSW All Schools Championships
The 2009 NSW All-Schools Basketball Championships were held last week at the picturesque Newington College, in Sydney's inner-western suburb of Stanmore.
Men's and women's teams from Combined High Schools (CHS), Combined Independent Schools (CIS) and Combined Catholic Colleges (CCC) met for their annual event, with CIS taking the honours in both divisions.
Sutherland Basketball Association junior representatives Daniel Hill (CIS / Newington College), Robert Selbers (CHS / Menai HS) and Nicole Gordon (CHS /Kirrawee HS) were all involved on the day, along with Rhiaan Te Hira (CHS / Endeavour HS).

Hill was subsequently chosen in one of two star-studded "Combined All-Schools teams" (men's and women's), which will compete for NSW at the 2009 Australian All-Schools Basketball Championships, which will be held in Newcastle in August.
The players chosen in the state teams are shown below:

Sutherland Sharks have 3 teams in top five of Premier Youth League
After the long weekend’s two rounds played in soccer’s Premier Youth League competitions the Sutherland Sharks now have three teams out of five in the play-off top five.
Sutherland Sharks 14s are best placed of the local sides remaining in second spot after their two wins. The Sharks 18s are in third position on their ladder. Next best for the Sharks is the 15s who are now in fifth spot after splitting their games on the long weekend. Both the 13s and 16s are in 9th positions.
Full results for the round 14 games between Sutherland Sharks and Bankstown City played last Saturday were as follows.
Under 13: Sutherland Sharks lost 1 nil
Under 14: Sutherland Sharks won 4 nil
Under 15: Sutherland Sharks won 2 - 1
Under 16: Sutherland Sharks lost 1 nil
Under 18: Sutherland Sharks won 2 – 1
Full results for the rescheduled round 12 games played last Monday between Sutherland Sharks and Manly United were as follows.
Under 13: Sutherland Sharks drew 2 all
Under 14: Sutherland Sharks won 4 - 1
Under 15: Sutherland Sharks lost 1 nil
Under 16: Sutherland Sharks drew nil all
Under 18: Sutherland Sharks lost 3 – 1
The next round is to be played from Saturday 13th June with the Sutherland Sharks Premier Youth League teams taking on Sydney United at the Sydney United Sports Centre beginning with the under 13s at 9am.

Sydney FC to take on North Queensland Fury at Shark Park
As reported in last week’s column, Sydney FC is currently preparing for the new A-League season with a string of pre season friendlies. One of the highlights of the Sky Blues’ pre season campaign will be their trial clash with Hyundai A-League newcomers, the North Queensland Fury at Shark Park in Cronulla on Saturday, June 27th.
The trial match is being staged in cooperation with the Cronulla Sharks and tickets for this match are now on sale through Ticketek. The friendly against the Fury will be an historic occasion, offering Sydney football fans their first opportunity to see North Queensland and former Liverpool great, Robbie Fowler in action.
The North Queensland side also boasts a host of former Sydney FC stars, including Robbie Middleby, Brendon Santalab and Jacob Timpano, adding a real air of rivalry to the occasion. The Sydney FC squad includes former Sutherland Shark, 21 year old Brendan Gan.

As reported previously Sydney is hosting the 2009 World Masters Games involving over 28 sports from October 10 to 18 for social to elite athletes.
