Local surf life savers perform well in NSW Pool Rescue Championships
The best of the local surf sports athletes recently honed their water rescue skills in competition at the Peninsula Leisure Centre, Woy Woy. Cronulla surf club came fifth overall and its surfers to pick up first places were:
Dahlas Rogers in U15 Women’s 200m obstacles.
Cronulla A (Dahlas, Shivaun Street, Taylar Puskaric, Lana Rogers) in U15 Women’s 4x50m obstacle relay.
Cronulla A (Ryan Markey, Kyle Moore) in U14 Male 100m tube swim with patient & fins.
Cronulla A (Jessica Lauricella, Kayla Moore, Elysha Vom Bruch, Bridget) in U17 female 4 x 50 obstacle relay.
Cronulla A (Jessica Lauricella, Kayla Moore, Elysha Vom Bruch, Bridget) in open female 4 x 50m obstacle relay.

First places for other Sutherland Shire surf clubs were:
Elouera Blue in the under 15 male line throw.
North Cronulla Gold in the U17 Female 4 x 50m medley relay.
Blake McCrindle (Wanda) first in the open male 50m manikin carry.
Wanda Blue in the open male line throw.
North Cronulla Gold in U13 female line throw.
Sydney Water Surf Life Saving Series
The annual Sydney Water Premiership Series is on again. Surf life savers from clubs in NSW and Queensland will compete in the 4 round competition from October 31 to December 19. Events will include ski, board, swim and run, beach sprints, flags and relays.
The series is being held at the following beaches:
Round 1: Warilla-Barrack Heights on Saturday October 31
Round 2: Helensburgh-Stanwell Park on Saturday November 14
Round 3: Bellambi on Saturday November 28
Round 4: Towradgi on Saturday December 19
More centuries and great bowling in Sutherland Shire junior cricket
15 centuries after 4 rounds. In the previous SportsLive column (October 2009 – go to archives) the 9 century makers for rounds 1 and 2 were acknowledged.
New century makers from round 3: Kye Rigby scored 111 for Gymea 12D against St Patricks, Jaiden Connell scored 102 for DLS Seagulls 14C against Illawong Menai, Cameron Lane 101not out for Engadine 16C against Gymea Bay and Joshua O’Neill 100 for Gymea Bay 16C against Engadine.
In round 4, Cameron Mattison scored 107 not out for Illawong Menai 16D against Como Jannali, while Joshua McLaren also scored a ton (104) for Como Jannali 16B against DLS Seagulls.
As reported in the October column, 4 bowlers took 5 wickets or more in rounds 1 and 2. There were seven new additions to the bowling honour board in rounds 3 and 4.
In round 3, Mitchell Dibb headed the list taking 7/29 for Engadine 16C against Gymea Bay. Also taking 6 wickets in round 3 were Sean Piccone of Caringbah 16C with an amazing 6 wickets for 2 runs against Bosco, while Joshua Hammond took 6/13 for DLS Seagulls16B against Illawong Menai. Five wicket hauls were taken by Mitchell Cugley (5/4) for Illawong Menai 14D against Como Jannali, Liam Hehir (5/4) for St Patricks 12F against Caringbah and Andrew Stringfield (5/15) for Caringbah 16D against Como Jannali.
In round 4, Shayne Smith took 5 wickets for 7 runs for St Patricks 16A against Caringbah
